It is hoped that by looking at this specific project and the experiences of those involved, including Apollo Capital Projects, it will provide an information source for other art/health projects and to promote good design in healthcare environments to interested professionals and developers.
Before the Health Centre’s completion in May 2007, a new arts organisation was formed, Fort William Medical Centre Project. Together with a Steering Group made up from clients of the building project, its aim was to ensure that the art works created by local and national artists for display would enhance the interior and exterior of the primary care environment and celebrate the culture of the area. Led by an independent Arts Co-ordinator, representatives from all 3 GP practices in Fort William together with NHS Highland Trust and the Fort William Community Council the project has received much acclaim that the interior design, visual display and building ambience is having on the well-being of patients and staff alike shaping a view that the art project was indeed more than a luxury item but an essential part of any NHS building.
