The existing premises were completed in 1954 and still retains, albeit not functioning, the original patient call system, which consists of a varnished wooden box with a glass front and electro-mechanical swinging numbers! This, along with some other selected original items from the existing building, will be removed prior to its demolition and installed as a “montage” in the new building, serving as a reminder of the history and continuity of medical services in Old Kilpatrick.
At the Children’s Play Area, an interactive display illustrating the 39 locks over 35 miles between the River Clyde and the Firth of Forth, will be installed, being both fun and educational.
It is hoped that initiatives like these help to create a sense of the building “belonging” in the community from day one.
