Wells, Somerset
The Priory at Wells is a Grade II listed building which opened in 1837 as a workhouse, becoming a day hospital in 1933. A 1980's Health Centre containing a GP Practice was also situated in the road to the front to the Priory site. Rosebank, a Mental Health Service Unit being was located to the rear.
A campus development was planned for the NHS site involving the on site GP Practice, plus another Wells practice both occupying a brand new Primary Care Unit. Furthermore, the scheme aimed to integrate primary and community health on one site.
This 6,000 sqm project required the phased demolition, construction and refurbishment of buildings on site and the development an Ambulatory Care Centre within the new 2 GP Practice Primary Care Unit at the rear of the site. Furthermore, the 2nd Floor provides flexible expansion space and joins the ambulatory care facility and 2 Practices. This unit is attached to the refurbished Rosebank building which houses:
- Boots Pharmacy
- Community Dentist
- Trust Physiotherapist
- Plymouth University (Under Graduate & Post Graduate Health Training Centre)
The Primary Care Unit and Rosebank were completed in May 2004. The Priory was completed as part of a previous phase in June 2003 and houses Somerset PCT offices and Somerset Partnership Childrens' Services accommodation.
The project brief included working with multiple stakeholders, redeveloping Listed buildings and complementing the new and old buildings on a sensitive site.
