Hessle, Yorkshire
This development was successfully completed in November 2005 after a 12 month build, despite significant site issues which tested all involved in the scheme.
Not only was it the plan to design a new building around the existing centre whilst it remained in operation to avoid the provision of costly temporary accommodation, the development required pre-contract archaeological investigations on the site of the 12th century St James Hospital taking the health connections of the site back 800 years. Furthermore, the scheme tackled a very restricted site and one upon which Japanese Knotweed was in existence. The Knotweed which can spread rapidly and damage surfaces and structures, needed to be removed and disposed of in a controlled manner.
Despite the site problems a replacement Centre to the 1969 building was developed which now provides some 2,500 sqm for a 6 GP Practice, the Hessle Grange Medical Centre with 13,000 patients, the PCT, a Pharmacy and a Dentist with the provision for 80 car spaces where the original Health Centre stood. |
