This 650 sqm development was completed in two phases in late 2008, early 2009, to allow the Practice to remain in their existing premises whilst the new building was constructed on the (extended) existing site.
The village of Old Kilpatrick sits on the far western edge of the Greater Glasgow conurbation. The site nestles under the Old Kilpatrick hills, and immediately adjacent to the Forth and Clyde Canal and the River Clyde beyond. These iconic landmarks provided the context for the graphic art and signage that Apollo commisssioned, as part of the interior design of the building, giving the premises a "sense of place" within the community.
Medical services have been delivered from the site since the late 1940's and the Practice served the village for many years prior to this. The new premises are 3.5 times larger than the old premises which were constructed over 60 years ago, and had been in use, largely unaltered, since. The new building provides a step change in terms of space, clinical standards and patient and staff environment.
Lest the old premises be forgotten, a montage of "artefacts" from the old building hangs on the wall of the new building, serving as a reminder of the past, as the new building itself looks to the future with the confidence of continued care in this community for many years to come.
Dr Donald G Wallace of the Old Kilpatrick Medical Practice said in a letter to Apollo:
"The quality of workmanship throughout the new surgery was superb. Only high quality materials were used and completion involved thoughtful, tasteful decorative art work portraying scenes of local interest."
