The official opening of Gorbals Health & Care Centre

Overview of Opening:

Campbell Halliday, Apollo’s Procurement Director and Employer’s Agent for the Gorbals Health & Care Centre, was delighted to be invited to the Official Opening of the Centre on 3rd April 2019.

John Brown CBE, the Chairman of NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, opened proceedings by providing an enthusiastic and comprehensive introduction.  He was keen to note that around £150m was being invested in Health & Social Care; with Eastwood and Maryhill preceding Gorbals; Woodside nearing Completion, Greenock just started on site and Clydebank starting soon.

Jeane Freeman MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport performed the Official Opening.  She reflected upon the services being offered, the benefit the new Health & Social Care Centre brings to the local community and the uplifting surroundings for staff in the delivery of those services.  In essence she considered it to be the right services being provided within the right building by the right people.

‘The Centre opened to patients, visitors and staff on Monday 21st January 2019.

 As well as delivering a transformational improvement to the environment in which care is delivered, the new £17 million Centre offers an opportunity to reshape services from a patient and service user perspective, providing care that is more integrated, accessible and efficient, as well as contributing to the wider goals of health and social care integration, community regeneration and tackling health inequalities.

 The Centre delivers a wide range of services including four GP practices, public and community dental services, a range of primary and community care services such as physiotherapy, podiatry and treatment room services and other services including specialist children’s services, social care services and alcohol and drug recovery services.

 An innovative and locally developed Art Strategy features a range of installations that connect Gorbals past and present, its people and places.  There has been a high level of participation and engagement from community groups and stakeholders in the design and development of the Centre throughout the lifespan of the project’.
